With over 33,000 artifacts in its collections, the Submarine Force Museum is dedicated to preserving and educating the public about the history of submarines used in the United States Navy. Visitors can trace the history of the crafts from their rudimentary predecessors in the Revolutionary War to the high-tech submarines used today. Also located at the museum is the USS Nautilus, the first commissioned nuclear powered submarine used by the Navy. Residing on the southern tip of the US Naval Submarine Base, the museum is situated along the Thames River.
